During the January transfer window, Chelsea were linked with a surprise move to re-sign Thorgan Hazard from Borussia Monchengladbach but the Belgian stayed put in Germany.
Chelsea signed Thorgan, brother of Blues star Eden Hazard, in the summer of 2012 in a £450,000 deal from French side Lens before immediately sending him on a two-year loan to Belgian side Zlute Waregem.
After impressing back in his homeland, Borussia Monchengladbach took the Belgian attacking midfielder on loan for the 2014/15 season, a move which made permanent in the summer of 2015 for £7.2m bringing Thorgan’s three-year spell on Chelsea’s books to an end without making a single appearance for the Blues.
Over the last two-and-a-half seasons, Thorgan has impressed in the Bundesliga with Monchengladbach and has been linked with a return to the Premier League, with Leicester and West Ham among those mentioned in recent months, and the 24-year-old has revealed that England is appealing to him.
England is appealing, but when you speak to players who play there, they also tell you that Germany seems like an great league. We have the best stadiums, the best infrastructures. The atmosphere is also ‘hotter’ than in England.
