Jack Butland headed to Russia with a pre-World Cup boost for Stoke City by re-iterating his reluctance to make a sideways move out of the club – even if it meant an instant return to the Premier League.
But the England goalkeeper remains understandably keener on a move to a Liverpool or an Arsenal if an offer was to materialise from their recent interest.
Wolves are prominent among those fair to middling Premier League clubs registering an interest since Stoke’s relegation.
Those close to Butland, however, insist he would probably rather remain 30 miles up the M6 as things stand if it came down to a straight choice between Stoke and Wolves.
Butland himself remains confident that promotion can be achieved after one year in the Championship and the club is hoping this summer’s signings will increase his optimism.
Liverpool remain a viable suitor, despite the Champions League finalists being linked with the likes of Brazilian number one Allison and Barcelona number two Jasper Cillessen.
