Aston Villa star Jack Grealish believes that the club should be targeting automatic promotion this season, insisting that is what the club are striving towards under the management of Dean Smith.
It was a tough start to the season for Grealish and his teammates under the management of Steve Bruce. A play-off final hangover left them in mid-table and ultimately cost the manager his job at Villa Park.
Now, under Smith, Villa are on the rise, winning four of their last five to move into serious play-off contention.
They’ve swept aside Derby and Middlesbrough in recent weeks and picked up three points in the Second City derby.
And, Grealish, 23, has his sights set well beyond the play-offs.
“Automatic promotion is the target. You look at our team here and that’s what we should be striving for,” Grealish told Sky Sports.
“The players that we’ve got, even the guys that are coming off the bench and the people that are injured at the moment, we’ve got talent all around the squad.
“The only thing the staff and players are looking at is automatic promotion.”
Another tough test lies ahead of Smith’s side in the form of West Bromwich Albion.
