That’s according to Defoe’s new team-mate Gareth McAuley, who has played against the striker on plenty of occasions in England.

Defoe made the move north of the border on an 18-month loan deal from Bournemouth.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is hoping the former West Ham and Tottenham ace can help the Ibrox outfit to their first Scottish Premiership title since 2011.

And McAuley believes Defoe will thrive despite the pressure that playing for Rangers brings.

“Jermain to be fair is right up there as one of the toughest opponents I faced when I was in the Premier League,” McAuley told RangersTV.

“He just seemed to get goals and his movement is fantastic. I think he will be a big player in the second half of the season for us.
