Crystal Palace and Southampton to battle for Argentine attacker

By Luke Osman Crystal Palace have reportedly been joined by Southampton in the race to sign FC Nantes striker Emiliano Sala. A whole host of Premier League sides have already been linked with moves for the 28-year-old, who has been a standout performer in the top-flight of French football this season. Sala has found the net on 12 occasions in Ligue 1 and according to claims from France Football, the Saints have been tracking his progress. It is reported that Cardiff City are hottest on the trail of the Argentine forward as Neil Warnock looks to add more firepower to his team’s push for survival this season. Nevertheless, the Eagles have reportedly been keeping a close eye on Sala as he continues to score goals on a regular basis in France. The likes of Fulham and West Ham have also been cited with interest in the striker. France Football’s report indicates that offers in excess of €15 million could be submitted by clubs from the Premier League as the January transfer window edges closer. Crystal Palace have struggled in front of goal this season and could be on the lookout for added attacking inspiration ahead of the second half of the campaign. One 21-year-old Brighton fan from Shoreham was arrested at the stadium for throwing a pie onto the pitch towards Zaha. Crystal Palace star condemns his side’s performance against Brighton

By Rebecca Hawksworth James McArthur has branded his Crystal Palace side’s defeat to ten-man Brighton as “unacceptable”, the Mirror reports. McArthur spoke after the game of his side’s 3-1 defeat and condemned the performance by saying: It was not good enough, especially in the first half. To give them three goals in not acceptable. Obviously the manager was not happy. Everyone knows it is not acceptable, performance or result wise. Even in the second half when we were pushing we did not put their goalkeeper under enough pressure when they have got 10 men. A poor performance all round and not acceptable. Palace have now won only one game in their last ten matches and sit just three points above the relegation zone. McArthur went on to say: It is very disappointing. We all expected a much better performance, especially after that win. It is the danger of the Premier League, we need to make sure we keep our foot on that gas. The only thing is we have that game very fast that we can try and make it right. When you have that full week it is hard and it eats away at you. Now we need to get going and make it right by winning at West …read more

European giants and Palace in battle to sign South American star

By Ste Hoare Fenerbahce are making a hard push to sign Gabriel Barbosa from Inter Milan, amid reports linking the striker with a move to Crystal Palace. The Brazilian forward, who is commonly known as Gabigol, has reportedly been eyed by a plethora of clubs from across Europe as his future at San Siro continues to come into question. Palace, alongside plenty of other Premier League sides, have been touted as a potential destination for the youngster, who looks all but set to seek pastures new at the turn of the year. According to a report from Calciomercato, it is Turkish Super Lig club Fenerbahce who now lead the race to land Gabigol ahead of the upcoming transfer window. It’s claimed that they are prepared to present a ‘concrete offer’ to officials from Inter in January as they look to strengthen their attacking options. Competition is increasing in the race for Gabigol’s signature and it seems, if the Eagles are serious about their apparent pursuit of the 22-year-old, they will need to move quickly as Fenerbahce close in. Palace coach reveals Meyer’s best position

By Sam Brown Max Meyer hasn’t had the easiest start to life at Crystal Palace. Having made just four starts in the Premier League as an Eagle, the summer signing has failed to excite the Selhurst Park crowd. One part of the problem may be his lack of obvious position – something that was addressed by Palace assistant manager Ray Lewington at a fan’s forum. Quoted by Football London, Lewington said: It is a difficult one, he is one of those difficult players, he is a typical modern day player. They don’t have an out-and-out role, where you would say, yes, that’s him, [Cheikhou] Kouyate, you would say, yes he is a central midfielder, one of two, or three, he is up and down and gets his foot in and like Luka [Milivojevic], he is a sitting midfielder. Max [Meyer] has got so much ability; people say he is a number ten, but if you don’t play a number ten, the modern day player behind the centre forward, that’s what people call a number ten. Everyone says Meyer says he should be there. If you talk to Max, he doesn’t actually like playing number ten, he likes playing in midfield. The former Schalke man is yet to find his role …read more
