Meyer and Schlupp shine but Ayew struggles: How Palace’s players rated against Doncaster

By Luke Osman Goals from Jeffrey Schlupp and Max Meyer against Doncaster Rovers booked Crystal Palace their place in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday. The Eagles headed into the clash at the Keepmoat Stadium knowing that a win would secure them their passage through to the final eight of the competition after seeing off Grimsby Town and Tottenham Hotspur in the previous rounds. Roy Hodgson rotated his team, but they were comfortable throughout and took the lead after eight minutes as Schlupp’s deflected effort finished off a slick counter-attack from the visitors. On the stroke of half-time, Palace doubled their lead courtesy of Meyer. Andros Townsend put Luka Milivojevic’s inch-perfect pass across to the German, who quickly dispatched. Palace will be content with what was a routine victory against Doncaster away from home. Here are our player ratings. Added Time Agony, Not Once But Twice For The Dee

By Daniel Smith It is that all too familiar case among the Dundee support of ‘what could have been’ following our draws with Hamilton and Kilmarnock which both had late drama ending in heartbreak both times for the Dee. Our trip was your bog-standard bottom of the table clash. A Dundee victory would have propelled us above the Accies and out of the bottom two but Hamilton were hoping for the ‘new manager’ bounce that some teams produce after the appointment of a new head coach just days prior to our clash. We had a busy January window which saw arrivals in abundance through the door at Dens Park with no fewer than five players made their debuts for us in a clash that I said a week earlier was a ‘must win.’ It was one of our debutants Scott Wright who opened the scoring in this crucial game when he slotted home with twenty-five minutes left to play. It looked like Dundee would claim that all important win but with the game heading into the 91st minute, Hamilton silenced the Dundee support by taking advantage of a poor goalkeeping clearance to level the score and keep the gap between the teams the same. It was a …read more

PODCAST | Crystal Palace 2-0 Fulham

By Alfonso Greenbrook In this week’s e-Crystal Palace Podcast, I review the game against Fulham by bringing you my match report, player ratings as well as my Man of the Match. Palace completed the double over their London rivals Fulham in their 2-0 win. Luka Milivojevic scored from the penalty box in the 25th minute, after a handball from Cyrus Christie, whilst two minutes from time Jeffrey Schlupp scored his 4th of the season, after some good work from new signing Michy Batshuayi. Who should start in midfield; James McArthur, Jeffrey Schlupp or Max Meyer? Will Manchester City make an offer for Aaron Aaron Wan-Bissaka or is it just paper talk? How good was it to see Christian Benteke again? Will Michy Batshuayi provide us with the goals we need? All this and more in this week’s e-Crystal Palace Podcast. Palace boss hopeful over new signing

By Oliver Birch Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson is looking forward to working with Michy Batshuayi and is hopeful he can move on from a disappointing loan spell with Valencia, football.london report. The Chelsea forward joined Palace on loan on deadline day in January after spending the first half of the season on loan with Valencia; where he scored just one La Liga goal in 15 appearances, though he only made four starts. Batshuayi has struggled for first team football since his £33million move to Chelsea in 2016, and spent last season on loan with Borussia Dortmund, prior to his spell in La Liga. The Belgium international enjoyed his time in the Bundesliga, however, scoring seven goals in 10 league appearances, and Hodgson will be hoping the striker rediscovers that form for the Eagles. And the Palace boss believes Batshuayi will be a good fit for Palace this season and put his struggles with Valencia behind him. It is one fairly short period [at Valencia], but to be fair to him, he has moved around a lot, and he has shown he doesn’t just want to be part of a squad and earning money, he wants to go and play football. He has shown …read more
