Norwich City picked up their first win of the Championship season on Wednesday night as they beat QPR 2-0. The Canaries produced a superb display as they battled hard to beat Ian Holloway's side at Carrow Road. A strong start by QPR was well defended by Norwich, with a gritty first-half ending 0-0. Mario Vrancic and Nelson Oliveira made sure Norwich had the perfect start to the second half, as the former set up the latter to open the scoring in the 49th minute. QPR then came close to equalising but for a top double save from Angus Gunn to keep Norwich in front. Gunn made a low diving save to push away the first effort before rushing back across his goal to pounce on the rebound and collect the ball. Harrison Reed sealed the win for Norwich in the 82nd minute. The midfielder drove forward with the ball and unleashed a rasping shot into the top corner from 25-yards. Here is how we rated the Canaries… The post Norwich player ratings: QPR (H) appeared first on Read Norwich. [...]

According to the Sun Fleetwood have rejected Cardiff's bid for Amari'i Bell. However, Cardiff are weighing up a new offer for the 23-year-old. Amari'i Bell started his career with Birmingham. While he was with the Blues, he went out on loan to Nuneaton, Kidderminster Harriers, Mansfield Town, Swindon Town, and Gillingham. Bell only made one appearance for Birmingham, and it came against Leicester in a 2-1 defeat. After Bell was released from Birmingham, he signed for Fleetwood despite interest from Gillingham. Amari'i Bell played an important part in Fleetwood's successful campaign last season, as Uwe Rosler's side reached the play-off semi-finals. His performances have attracted interest from Cardiff, and a number of League One clubs. Bell is entering the final year of his contract at Highbury. With interest from Cardiff, the pacy left-back may be looking for a move to a Championship club. It's also being reported that Hull are interested in the 23-year-old, but no bid has been made by the Tigers. Neil Warnock is in the market for a new left-back after the Bluebirds current starting left-back Joe Bennet has attracted interest from Fulham. Warnock said this about Fulham's interest in Bennet ” I think he has a buyout clause in [...]

Last night Sheffield Wednesday drew at home to Simon Grayson's Sunderland. The game ended 1-1 which means Carlos Carvalhal's side are still looking for their first win in the Championship this season. Sunderland took the lead early on. Aiden McGeady's cross found George Honeyman who hammered home much to the delight of the travelling Sunderland fans. But with twenty minutes left Sheffield Wednesday found an equaliser courtesy of a stunning David Jones strike. Neither team could find a winner, and it finished 1-1. Let's see how Sheffield Wednesday fans reacted to the draw on Twitter. One player link with Leeds United that is doing the rounds at the moment is one that would fill a gap in the squad for the Whites up front – the ‘chase' for Pierre-Michel Lasogga. Leeds have been linked with the ‘surplus to requirements' SV Hamburg forward for the last week-or-so, with reports of him apparently being seen in Leeds as discussions continued on a supposed loan-to-buy option. However, yesterday Hamburger Morgen Post (HMP) puts some doubt into the truth of this move – the doubt mainly coming the way of Lasogga himself. According to the HMP the chase for Lasogga is drawing to a close but “does not lead to a happy ending [for Leeds United].” HMP go on to say that Lasogga is hesitant to commit to leaving Germany and taking up a place in England second-tier competition in the Sky Bet Championship. They say that things playing on his mind are leading to him being hesitant on the move, and that he “tends rather to cancel the Whites.” Embed from Getty Images This pulling out of any potential deal is mainly, say HMP, down to one issue – he's not willing to arrive as a squad member only. Admitting that Lasogga is [...]

If the overriding emotion at 3:30pm on Sunday was frustration, then last night's equivalent was relief. Of course there was no little joy to be had – and the old place rocked at times last night – but Daniel Farke's first Championship victory also signalled a collective ‘Phew! Now we can get on with it'. That his first win arrived by virtue of grit and determination rather than ninety minutes of aesthetically pleasing, patient, passing football was no bad thing and will serve as a timely reminder to Team Farke that the Championship is no respecter of philosophies. Instead it was the team's ability to dig deep when the going was tough and ride out the spells of pressure that laid the foundations for the technicians to finally win the day for City. 71 per cent of possession counted for diddly squat on Sunday and while the intention would have been to dominate it to a similar degree last night, the fact they didn't and still found a way to win was noteworthy. And it was tough going at times – no question. Despite one or two spells of City pressure in the opening 45 it lacked fluidity and rhythm and it was Holloway's [...]

It was only hinted at by BBC Radio Leeds journalist Adam Pope on his Twitter feed four days ago, but now it has been confirmed – former Crystal Palace youth player Bryce Hosannah has signed for Leeds United. According to Adam Pope, the Whites had agreed to sign former Crystal Palace youngster Bryce Hosannah after what had obviously been a successful trial at the club. This was all conjecture and hearsay until the following tweet from Hosannah himself. Delighted to have signed my first professional contract with @LUFC , big thanks to everyone who's been supporting me#LUFC pic.twitter.com/02DcQd1X0c — bryce_ (@brycehosannah) August 16, 2017 Hosannah, a right-back (although listed by Crystal Palace's website as a midfielder), was let go by Crystal Palace over the summer, released when clubs were deciding their retained lists. As Adam Pope's tweet showed, and confirmed by Hossanah's tweet (above), it seemed that the chance to salvage his career is to begin with Leeds United and their Academy/Development side. This is a set-up that has, in times gone by, produced many players who are currently members of Premier League sides. The Whites have invested heavily in scouted talent for the Under 23s, a side that had a horrible season during [...]

Former Leeds United winger Max Gradel has completed his proposed loan move from current club AFC Bournemouth to French club Toulouse according to Sky Sports sources. The 29-year-old Ivorian international ace has joined Le Tefece on a season-long loan deal with the player having struggled with injuries during his time with parent club AFC Bournemouth. The Cherries are thought to have been unsure about letting the winger join Toulouse however it is now understood that a loan deal has been agreed and Gradel will play in France for the second time in his career following a four-year spell at Saint-Etienne. Gradel started his career at Leicester City and was loaned out to AFC Bournemouth and then Leeds United. The player became an instant hit with fans of The Whites who demanded that the club pursued a potential permanent deal. The winger saw his initial one-month loan deal extended and Gradel eventually joined Leeds United for an undisclosed fee in January 2010 after handing in a transfer request at The King Power Stadium. The Ivorian helped Leeds United to promotion back to the Sky Bet Championship in his first season with the club while the following season the player won the club's Fans' Player of [...]

It was rumoured earlier today, and has now been confirmed (tweet – below), that Sheffield Wednesday were to have a new man joining them to bolster their defensive options. That man was Federico Venâncio, who has swapped the Liga NOS and Portugal for the less sunny climes of South Yorkshire and the Sky Bet Championship with Sheffield Wednesday. BREAKING: Owls complete loan capture of Frederico Venancio until the end of the season https://t.co/fRxZYh79dt #swfc pic.twitter.com/wKWp7a67uk — Sheffield Wednesday (@swfc) August 16, 2017 Venâncio, who appeared for parent club Vitoria Setúbal in a pre-season friendly against Wednesday, joins the South Yorkshire club for a season-long loan deal. On joining the club, the 24-year-old defender said: “I've been waiting for this moment for so long to come to the English Championship, it's like a dream come true. I think my game is suited to England, I'm aggressive and I like to play my football at the same time.” Four things Venâncio for Sheffield Wednesday fans 1. Leeds recruitment in the academy has been better this year than many previous combined. The youngsters have always come through ranks of local sides but actually attracting other players into the setup hasn't always been easy. Today Leeds have added yet another new player, Bryce Hosannah. The young right-back has been with the Crystal Palace academy in recent years and was looking for a new club, Leeds happy to play him in a recent game to see how he does. He has today confirmed via his twitter account that he has penned a deal with Leeds and he is very excited about the new challenge. The club have been recruiting heavily with the youth sides depleted in recent years, a lot of the players breaking onto the first-team or moving on. So far this summer Leeds have recruited Kun, Adrian Baloboa and Oriol Rey from Barcelona, Ousama Siddiki from Real Madrid along with Alejandro Machuca and that adds to some of the talent already there. Hosannah will slot into a side that lacks defenders and will play alongside Rey, the 19-year-old Barcelona lad who signed a two-year-deal with the club two weeks ago. The recruitment is set to continue under Victor Orta [...]

After having a miserable season in the Premier League last term, Burnley have started this season in the best possible way, by beating the defending champions Chelsea by 3-2 in their opening fixture of the campaign, stunning the whole football fraternity and once again establishing the unpredictability of the Premier League. Already having a cool and composed player like Sam Vokes in their ranks, who led the charge for the Clarets in their emphatic win against the Blues, Burnley coach Sean Dyche is looking to add to his attacking propositions for the forthcoming matches and is poised to make a move for the Leeds United striker Chris Wood in the ongoing transfer market. The New Zealand ace was prolific in the last term and has been playing a very important role for them in the Championship. He has been in a very good form of late and showed his brilliance throughout the last season by scoring 27 goals for his team. However, lack of support from his teammates has been a demoralising factor for the striker, as his performance was not enough to book a place for his team in the Championship play-offs last term. The move to Premier League is definitely going [...]

Sky Bet Championship side Cardiff City are looking to keep striker Kenneth Zohore after rejecting a £10m bid for the striker, according to Sky Sports. The Bluebirds rejected the multi-million pound bid from Hull City, the latest bid in a series of attempts to sign the Danish under-21 international. Leonid Slutsky is known to be keen to improve the firepower he has available to him at the KCOM Stadium and deems Zohore a suitable addition to his attacking ranks. But the former Russian manager's desires to sign Zohore could have increased further after Abel Hernandez suffered an injury in the 3-2 defeat against Wolves on Tuesday night. The Tigers striker was due to see a specialist today in order to find out the severity of the injury and a timeline for his potential return. Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce says that he wants to sign a new striker before the end of the month. Bruce feels his side is lacking a cutting edge going forward and that he needs a new foil up front. Villa have scored two goals in their opening two Championship matches, against Hull and Reading. Speaking to the Birmingham Mail, Bruce said this: We need to score, we need to really look at what we've got at the top end of the pitch because without Kodjia at the moment we are a bit toothless I have to say that. We have to try to address that if we can. Last season's top scorer Jonathan Kodjia is currently sidelined with injury and Scott Hogan went off injured in the first-half against Reading. That potentially leaves Gabriel Agbonlahor, the scorer of half of Villa's league goals this season, and Ross McCormack as Bruce's options. McCormack is currently frozen out of the first-team picture as he looks set to leave the club before the end of the month. Bruce is now looking to add another forward to the ranks before the end of the window in just over two weeks time. The post Bruce wants striker in by the end of the month [...]

Norwich City striker Nelson Oliveira has said that he doesn't know anything about transfer rumours linking him to fellow Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to the August 15th print edition of Portuguese newspaper Record. This statement comes after it was reported last weekend, in the print edition of The Sunday People, that Wolves were looking at spending £20 million on Oliveira and Jordan Rhodes of Sheffield Wednesday. These rumours started to circulate after Oliveira vented his frustration at Canaries boss Daniel Farke after he scored against Fulham on the opening day of the season, having been named among the substitutes. The former Benfica forward was once again named as a substitute, only coming on in the 68th minute, as Norwich lost 3-1 against Simon Grayson's Sunderland at Carrow Road on Sunday. However, the Portuguese international has claimed that he is unaware of any rumours linking him to Molineux. He said: “I do not know about Wolves' possible interest. I admire Nuno Espírito Santo as a coach and I even have friends at Wolves, but I'm happy at Norwich.” This news will undoubtedly please Norwich fans, who see Oliveira as having a key role in their squad, as they bid to return to the Premier League, a [...]

Norwich City play host to QPR tonight at Carrow Road as they look for their first win of the league season. The Canaries have only one point from their opening two fixtures, having drawn away at Fulham and lost to Sunderland at home. Daniel Farke's men were put to the sword against Sunderland last weekend, losing 3-1 to the side relegated from the Premier League earlier this year. Norwich struggled going forwards and in defence, with a lot to improve on coming into Wednesday's clash against QPR. Farke will be looking to secure his first league win as Norwich boss – with his only win so far coming against Swindon in the League Cup. Following such a disappointing result to Sunderland, a number of changes are expected in the Norwich starting line-up. Norwich will have to do without a number of first-team players, though, as Alex Pritchard, Timm Klose, Jamal Lewis and others remain sidelined. The 25-year-old is back at the Emirates Stadium after spending the season out on loan at AFC Bournemouth, but his future with the Gunners has been under some doubt. His contract expires at the end of the current season and it remains to be seen if Arsene Wenger is willing to offering an extension. However, speaking to the Independent, Wenger has opened the door to Wilshere fighting for his place in the team, putting doubt on any move to Aston Villa or anywhere else for that matter. West Ham United were also interested, as were overseas duo Sampdoria and Antalyaspor. Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe decided against pursuing a permanent deal for Wilshere, who made a total of 27 appearances for the Cherries. The skilful playmaker made his return from injury in an Under-23 match on Monday against Derby County in a Premier League 2 match. This was the first time in nearly a year he appeared in an Arsenal shirt. He has been out of action altogether since sustained an injury whilst with the Cherries at the end of last season in April. Vitoria centre-back Frederico Venancio is due to undergo a medical ahead of a loan move to Sheffield Wednesday according to The Star Sheffield journalist Dom Howson. It's being reported that it will be a loan move with the option to make it permanent next summer. Venancio was part of the Vitoria team which drew 0-0 to the Owls in pre-season. The move should be finalised today. Venancio has represented Portugal at Under-20 and Under-21 level. The 24-year-old has played 134 times for the Portuguese club, and he's scored seven goals for the club. The defender has previously been linked with a move to a Championship rivals Leeds United, Reading and Derby County, however, he looks set to join Carlos Carvalhal's team. He was also linked with a move to Greek giants Olympiakos in January, but nothing ever materialized. Venancio said this on Vitoria's website last night ” I thank the leaders of Vitoria FC for having understood how important it was for me to embrace this new challenge. “Vitoria is in my heart, it's part of me. That is why I chose to renew my contract for another three years. He continued “I'm going to England, but I'm going to have the club and my teammates [...]

Neil Warnock seemed surprised when he was told that his Cardiff City team had set a club record by making it three league wins out of three to start the season after their 2-0 victory over Sheffield United last night. The manager was quick to point out that he'd been in charge of teams that had taken nine points from their first three games though as he asked for confirmation from a Sheffield journalist who was at the press conference! In fact, Warnock's United team started the 2005/06 Championship equivalent off with ten wins out of ten as they made a blistering start to what, hardly surprisingly, turned out to be a promotion season. Therefore, it's hardly surprising that our manager seemed a little taken aback when told of the record his current side had created – after all, you would have expected something a bit more impressive than that from a club which will be celebrating a century in the Football League in three years from now. Nevertheless, it's no reflection on the City players that the record they beat last night was a pretty modest one – all they could do is go out and create a new record by [...]

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post's Phil Hay, Pierre-Michel Lasogga's £50k-a-week wage is making his move to Leeds United difficult. Reports broke last week that Leeds were looking to sign the striker from Hamburg, but the Sky Bet Championship outfit have made no progress in their attempts over the last seven days. According to the latest reports, Lasogga's mammoth wages are proving to be a stumbling block, as Leeds would want Hamburg to pay at least 50% in any potential loan deal. Leeds remain keen to add a striker to their squad between now and the end of the summer, as they look for an alternative to Chris Wood in attack. Lasogga has played his entire career in the Bundesliga, and despite a difficult last 12-months, the striker's record in Germany's top-flight is still impressive. The 25-year-old has scored 34 league goals in 128 appearances, including 14 from just 22 appearances during the 2013/14 campaign. Whilst Leeds are looking to add Lasogga to their squad, a number of other clubs are looking to lure Wood away from Elland Road this summer. Leeds have already rejected two bids from Burnley, as they stand firm over the striker who scored 30 goals across all competitions last season. So far [...]

Fulham could not find a way past Leeds at Elland Road last night with both sides settling for a 0-0 draw. Fulham had more efforts on goal than Leeds, but neither side showed massive attacking intent in what will be one of the Championship's more forgettable games of the season. The big news that has come out of it for Fulham is the injury to Lucas Piazon, who has broken his leg after a challenge from Leeds centre-back Conor Shaughnessy. This is a big blow for Fulham, as Piazon was an important player for them last season and had only just scored a late equaliser against Reading three days earlier to gain a point. The draw came to a mixed reception from Cottagers fans, with many claiming it's a decent point against a decent side, whilst others worried about the number of injuries that are piling up at Craven Cottage. Aston Villa went into last seasons campaign after being relegated from the Premier League, after what can only be described as a disastrous season. ‘The Villans' however, had high hopes of returning to the top-tier of English football at the first time of asking, but unfortunately for their loyal fans, finished 13th, way below what everyone expected, and subsequently find themselves in the Championship for a second season. Even after the failings of last time out, however, Villa were many people's favourites to win the league before the season begun, but haven't started in the best way, drawing 1-1 with Hull on the opening weekend, losing 3-0 to Cardiff last weekend and losing again last night 2-1 away at Reading. Many fans thought that last night could be the turning point, especially when you bear in mind that reigning champions Newcastle United lost their opening two games before going on to win the league, but it wasn't meant to be, and although we are only three games into the new season, it looks like Villa fans are losing faith already. Many are calling for manager Steve Bruce to be sacked already. BRUCE OUT — alisha (@alishaavfc) August 15, 2017 Bruce is so clueless #BruceOut — Simon Svärd (@simpadude) [...]

Steve Bruce has made an ambitious enquiry about bringing Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere to Aston Villa, according to The Mirror. Bruce has already signed former England captain John Terry, and is hopeful that a big money contract along with generous bonuses could tempt Wilshere to make the step down to the Championship. Arsenal have told the midfielder he can leave if the right offer comes in, but are likely to demand a hefty fee for a permanent deal. In addition, Wilshere may prefer to... [...]
