According to one of the latest reports by The Daily Star, Championship outfit Leeds United are keen to bring La Liga forward Emiliano Buendia to the Elland Road in the near future. The Whites have knitted a spectacular start to their English second division campaign under the tutelage of Thomas Christiansen, having collected 17 points from their first 8 league outings and are currently placed at the top of the league table. Christiansen made some astute signings over the course of the summer transfer window, with the likes of Samu Saiz, Ezgjan Alioski, Pawel Cibicki and Mateusz Klich shaking their hands with the Yorkshire based club. The recruitments have been reaping dividends so far and no wonder the club is performing to its potential. Garry Monk failed to make them cross the line last season, but Christiansen has the luxury of using what Monk constructed last season to earn the uplift. The Peacocks' apparent interest to sign Buendia doesn't really come as a surprise, for he is a youngster with immense potential, exuberance and creativity. Owned by Getafe but currently out on loan at Segunda Division side Cultural Leonesa, the 20-year-old has already featured 37 times for Getafe and has notably developed over [...]

Championship outfit Leeds United have had a splendid start to their season, having bagged 17 points from their first 8 games. Although the Whites were beaten 1-0 away at Millwall, they came back strongly during their midweek clash in the Carabao Cup against Burnley, which they won via penalty shoot-outs. Thomas Christiansen has been very astute in setting up his tactical nous so far this season. Leeds United are due to host Ipswich Town on Saturday and here is how their starting XI might look like. Defence The duo of Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper are expected to start at the heart of Christiansen's defence. Jansson didn't feature in the midweek fixture, whereas Cooper missed the last two outings owing to his injury but these two would form an ideal partnership at the central defence. From the left-back position, Vurnon Anita is seemingly likely to be given the nod to start the game. Anita is yet to prove his mettle in the Leeds United shirt and after an average outing against Millwall, it is about time for him to start hitting the right chords. The right-back slot in the starting line-up is anticipated to be handed to Luke Ayling and as far as the custodian's [...]

Mateusz Klich was Leeds United's first signing of this summer's transfer window, his signature breaking the transfer levee for the 15 that followed him. He is also the first Polish player to feature for the Whites. Klich signed on at Elland Road joining the West Yorkshire club from Dutch Eredivisie side FC Twente Enschede, after coming to prominence largely in German football through sides such as VfL Wolsburg and FC Kaiserslautern. His signature for Leeds saw the 10-cap Poland international join the Whites on the back of a season with FC Twente in 2016/17 where he featured in 29 appearances, scoring six goals and providing four assists. 3 points ✅ Debut ✅ Well done team #MOT #LeedsUnited A post shared by Mateusz Klich (@cli5hy) on Aug 19, 2017 at 1:44pm PDT On signing for Leeds, Klich admitted to not knowing much about the city where he would be playing his football, but there was one important thing that he did know – the size of the club. Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post about this, the Poland midfielder said: “I wanted to come here – I remember Leeds playing in the Premier League. I didn't know anything more than that because every club is so far [...]

Gaetano Berardi is back and is in the thick of it as we expect. He attended the presser today with a shiner of a black eye after the League Cup win over Burnley at Turfmoor on Tuesday night. He had to leave the pitch with blood running down his face and he doesn't seem bothered if it happens again tomorrow. In terms of players committed to the cause Gaetano Berardi is at the very top of the list. His pride, passion and commitment is wonderful and has helped the players and fans stay connected in recent years when things haven't been going so well. His long list of cuts, scrapes and bruises are due to him holding back…never. He flies into tackles as Charlie Taylor found out on Tuesday night, goes hell for leather when he commits to headed duals and when he decides he's making a block the body is well and truly on the line. He is now fully fit and could well replace Vurnon Anita with the Dutch full-back not in the greatest of form. Berardi earned a new deal at the start of the summer and that was music to the ears of the fans and probably the [...]

Hadi Sacko and Mateusz Klich NB: This article also appears in Saturday's edition of the Yorkshire Evening Post. Leeds United's first loss of the season, viewed in the context of what is shaping up to be a momentous campaign, was less painful than might have been expected. The defeat was narrow and yet decisive; United were blown away by the sheer desire and commitment of a Millwall side whose performances against Leeds rarely seem to lack those qualities. In the event, the home side deserved their success, having had an early strike ruled out for a debatable offside call. Even then, there was a hint of offside about the eventual winner, but justice was probably done on the day. Fortunately for those United fans who felt themselves to have returned to Earth with a bump, there was a chance for redemption at Burnley in the midweek Carabao Cup tie. Sure enough, Leeds dusted themselves down and revealed their gritty side to match higher league opposition, despite nine changes from last weekend. There was a grim satisfaction in ejecting the Clarets from the competition, especially as United were up against two erstwhile heroes in Chris Wood and Charlie Taylor, both of whom saw [...]

Thomas Christiansen has declared everyone bar Caleb Ekuban fit for tomorrow's game at home to Ipswich Town. That means that four players who had slight doubts have been made available for the game and the squad looks very strong again all of a sudden. Pontus Jansson, Liam Cooper, Matthew Pennington and Vurnon Anita have had niggles in recent weeks and the three centre-backs have all missed minutes through those injuries. Pennington hasn't been seen since the opening day of the season at Bolton Wanderers, Liam Cooper missed the defeat at Millwall and win over Burnley in the League Cup and Jansson, who also missed that game missed the last 10 minutes in London after picking up what looked like a hamstring injury. Anita has been taken off a few times with niggles but looks set to be fit again, whether or not his recent performances will keep him in the side I am unsure. Christiansen has said that Ekuban is the only player who won't make the game so players are going to be sat in the stands unfortunately and more than one or two. Berardi is now back, either Vieira or Klich will probably miss out as will Sacko or Cibicki. [...]

There are some very big decisions to be made yesterday after an up and down week for the players. the defeat, and manner of the defeat at Millwall has opened the door for some players potentially in what was becoming regular first-team. I don't expect too many changes but I feel there will be one or two. Thomas Christiansen has got his selections right every time so far, maybe the Millwall game the first time he has had to question what went wrong. My XI GK – Felix Wiedwald – Wiedwald didn't do too much wrong at the New Den and he will be happy to see the return of skipper Liam Cooper who seems set to make the game after a back injury picked up in the win over Birmingham City last Tuesday night. RB – Luke Ayling – The full-back has just won the clubs Player of the Month competition for August and has been brilliant so far this season. Has played centre-back a few times and captained the side in London last week, his attacking power will be crucial in pinning Ipswich back tomorrow. CB – Pontus Jansson – Thomas Christiansen says everyone is fit so that would indicate Jansson has [...]

After a poor showing last Saturday, Leeds bounced back in a big way on Tuesday night in Burnley. The issue now is, who starts tomorrow? Thankfully I don't have to make the actual decision, I don't envy the boss. Anyway, here's the team I'd go with… GK – Felix Wiedwald – Lonergan was tested more than Felix has been so far this season on Tuesday and he did a really good job, only conceding a penalty and a beauty of a free kick. It's good for Felix to have someone pushing him, he's yet to truly convince me. He'll still get the nod tomorrow afternoon. Yesterday Leeds United confirmed that Conor Shaughnessy has signed a new deal at the club. The contract, which is for four years will give both the player and club some breathing room as he continues to grow at Elland Road. The talented midfielder, who has been assigned to the centre back role for the first team has become a pivotal part at the club with Leeds suffering from injury setbacks. Shaughnessy began his career at Reading but signed for Leeds on a free transfer in the summer of 2016, spending the year in the development squad. However, with new head coach Thomas Christiansen coming to the club, Shaughnessy began training with the first team in order to compete for a position. The Republic of Ireland Under21 player has started two league games for the club and two cup games. He current scores at 1.7 aerials won a game and a passing completion rate of 72.3%. With a bright future ahead of him, the club have acted quickly to secure the prospect on a long term deal that will surely warn off any suitors. This is another move by Radrizanni and co that will [...]

Championship outfit Leeds United have carved a magnificent start to their league campaign under the tutelage of Thomas Christiansen. The Whites have hit the ground up and running from the very beginning and appear to be a side capable of earning a promotion to the English top flight. In their 8 Championship outing so far, Christiansen's men have collected as many as 17 points and are placed at the top of the league table. It has been very intriguing to see the manner in which Leeds United have perfectly made use of the pedestal which was created during Garry Monk's regime. The Yorkshire based club came very close to get the uplift, but owing to their dismal run of form during the business end of the season, they withered away and failed to get the anticipated output. Nonetheless, they have looked like a much polished and sharper side this time around. Christiansen made some shrewd acquisitions over the course of the summer transfer window, such as Samu Saiz, Ezgjan Alioski, Mateusz Klich to name a few, apart from the two quality goalkeepers in the shapes of Felix Wiedwald from Werder Bremen and Andy Lonergan from Wolverhampton Wanderers in order to beef up their [...]

Ipswich Town travel to table-topping Leeds United on Saturday afternoon, in front of a sold-out Elland Road crowd. Ipswich will move above Saturday's opponents, should they take all 3 points. Leeds United come into the game top of the Championship league table, with five wins, two draws and one defeat from their eight fixtures in the league. Meanwhile, Ipswich are this seasons surprise package so far. Town sit 5th in the league, with 15 points. They have managed five wins and two defeats from their first seven games, despite being one of the early season favourites for relegation. FORM Despite sitting pretty in first place, Leeds suffered their first loss of the campaign last time out, succumbing to a 1-0 defeat at Millwall. However, Leeds did manage to get back to winning ways in the Carabao cup on Tuesday night, beating Premier league side Burnley on penalties after the game finished 2-2. They are unbeaten at home in the league this season and have yet to concede a goal at Elland Road. This included the 5-0 demolition of Burton Albion. Ipswich ended a run of two consecutive defeats by beating bottom of the table Bolton Wanderers 2-0 at Portman Road last weekend. In their [...]

Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen has told the Telegraph and Argus that he is eager to pit his mind against more Premier League managers after their dramatic Carabao Cup win over Burnley. This week Leeds continued their great start to the season by claiming a penalties win over Premier League side Burnley in the Third Round of the Carabao Cup, an especially good win for a team that lost two of their star players to the club earlier in the summer. For Christiansen though it was the fact they were facing a Premier League side which excited him and after having a taste of it, he is eager for more. But while he will get another chance to beat a top tier side when they face Leicester City in the Fourth Round of the competition, what Christiansen means is that he is desperate for Leeds to get promoted so he can regularly pit his mind against the managers of that division. He said: “Before I came here I knew about Leeds, I've followed English football since I was a kid and I knew Leeds were a big team,” “They are a team who should be in the Premier League. This is what we [...]

Leeds United academy manager Adam Underwood has expressed his delight at the news that Conor Shaughnessy has agreed a new four year deal with the club, in an interview with Leeds' official site. The 21-year-old worked under Underwood with the U23's after joining the academy last summer from league rivals Reading, before advancing into the first team set-up this season. “I'm delighted for Conor, he is a hardworking, talented and versatile footballer who has an excellent attitude and work ethic,” said the academy boss. “I'm pleased that Victor and Thomas have seen enough to secure his long term future.” Shaughnessy has quickly established himself as one of Thomas Christiansen's key men, and those associated with the club will be delighted to have seen the player commit for four more years. The Verdict Thomas Christiansen and director of football Victor Orta have worked hard this summer to ensure the first team squad at Elland Road are tied to the club, and Shaughnessy joins the long line of names to have penned terms on a new deal this season. The talented youngster has bags of potential, and could earn his first senior international call-up next month when Ireland take on Moldova and Wales in must-win World Cup Qualifying matches. The Championship is back this weekend and there's a big game at Elland Road as two sides that have started well go head-to-head. Indeed, with Leeds United top of the league and having knocked out Burnley in the Carabao Cup and Ipswich also looking like potential contenders for promotion, we should be in for a top game. And, with Leeds losing to Millwall in the league last time out, there's going to be an urgency from Thomas Christiansen's men to prove that they can easily bounce back. For sure, then, Mick McCarthy's men need to be ready but it looks as though the stats are against them ahead of kick-off on Saturday afternoon. Indeed, as per transfermarkt, Ipswich have only won once at Elland Road since 2005 – with that game coming in 2015 and ending as a 1-0 win. That, though, is not a good record to be having going to a stadium such as Elland Road that is going to be buoyant thanks to the form of Leeds right now. Ipswich will really have to be at it, then, and it remains to be seen if they can handle a Leeds crowd eager to see their side back to winning ways in the league. Thoughts, [...]

Leeds United have announced on their official site that defender Conor Shaughnessy has signed a new deal with the club that will extend his stay to 2021. The 21-year-old broke into the first team this season after linking up with the reserves from Reading's academy last year, and has become a key member of boss Thomas Christiansen's squad. The former Republic of Ireland youth international's form has seen him touted for a potential call-up to Martin O'Neil's squad for next month's vital World Cup Qualifiers, and it appears the youngster has a bright future with the international side. Shaughnessy made his debut for the Whites in their opening day win at Bolton Wanderers, and has proven extremely versatile this year, operating from both the back and in midfield. On Tuesday Leeds United bounced back to winning ways having got through a tough cup tie against Burnley. The Whites twice went into the Leeds and superb super sub performances from Pablo Hernandez and Hadi Sacko provided the two goals for the club. However, the Burnley side fought back late on two occasions with goals in the 89th and 96th minutes. This game not only held significance in the cup, but also for Leeds United as a whole, who lost two demons in one night against the Clarets. The first demon to be vanquished saw Leeds complete their first win at Turf Moor since November 2011, with Leeds also going the last four meetings with Burnley having lost 3 and drawn 1. With a penalty shoot out deciding the final result, the club will be happy to stop the minor streak and grab a glorious result against a Premier League side. A heroes welcome; Dallas and Lonergan celebrate having played a major part in the Whites victory The next Demon is the return of Charlie Taylor and Chris Wood, two players who forced [...]
